Help & FAQ

Everything you need to know about OhMyDays

Getting Started

What is OhMyDays?

OhMyDays is a beautiful counter app that helps you track the moments that matter most. Whether you're counting down to a wedding, tracking how long since you started a new job, or remembering a special anniversary, OhMyDays makes it easy and beautiful.

Key features include:

  • Count down to future events or count up from past dates
  • Add photos from your gallery, Unsplash, or choose from beautiful gradients
  • Add and update notes to events
  • View events in weekly, monthly and yearly view
  • Home screen widgets to see your counters at a glance
How do I create my first event?

Step 1: Tap the "+" button on the home screen

Step 2: Enter a title for your event

Step 3: Select the date (and optionally time)

Step 4: Choose a category (Birthday, Anniversary, Travel, etc.)

Step 5: Add a photo or select a gradient background

Step 6: Tap "Create" and you're done!

Your event will appear on the home screen, showing the counter automatically based on whether the date is in the future or past.

What's the difference between counting down and counting up?

OhMyDays automatically determines whether to count down or count up based on your event date:

  • Count down (Days to go): When your event date is in the future, showing how many days until the event
  • Count-up (Days since): When your event date is in the past, showing how many days since the event occurred

This happens automatically - just set your date and OhMyDays handles the rest!

Events & Photos

How do I add photos to my events?

You can add photos when creating or editing an event:

  • From your gallery: Tap the photo area and select images from your device
  • Unsplash: Search and select from thousands of free high-quality images
  • Gradient backgrounds: Choose from beautiful pre-made gradient options

Pro users can add multiple photos to create a slideshow effect when viewing the event in full screen.

How do I edit or delete an event?

To edit an event:

  • Tap on the event card to open full screen view
  • Tap the settings icon (cog/gear) in the top left or right (depending on your hand preference)
  • Select "Edit Event"
  • Make your changes and tap "Save"

To delete an event:

  • Open the event in full screen view
  • Tap the settings icon (cog/gear) in the top left or right (depending on your hand preference)
  • Select "Delete Event"
  • Confirm the deletion

Or from list view:

  • Swipe left on the event card
  • Tap the delete button
What are recurring events?

Recurring events are a Pro feature that automatically repeat on a schedule, perfect for:

  • Birthdays: Count down to the next birthday each year
  • Anniversaries: Track wedding anniversaries, work anniversaries, etc.
  • Annual events: Holidays, traditions, or any yearly occasion

When you create a recurring event, OhMyDays automatically shows the counter to the next occurrence and updates after each one passes.

Can I change how the counter is displayed?

Yes! Pro users can customise the counter format for each event:

  • Days: Shows total days (e.g., "365 days to go")
  • Months: Shows months and days (e.g., "2 months, 15 days to go")
  • Years: Shows years, months, and days (e.g., "1 year, 3 months, 5 days to go")
  • Hours, minutes & seconds: Shows a live countdown with hours, minutes, and seconds

To change the format, edit the event and select your preferred counter format.

How do I create custom background colours?

OhMyDays lets you create and save custom gradient backgrounds for your events:

  1. Go to Settings and tap Custom Colours
  2. Use the colour wheel to create your perfect gradient
  3. Tap Save Colour to add it to your saved colours
  4. Your saved colours will appear when choosing a background for any event

You can save up to 10 custom colours.

Dark Mode tip: When your device is in dark mode, you'll see an "Apply Dark Mode Version" toggle in the Custom Colours screen. Enable this to automatically adjust your background colours for better appearance in dark mode — making colours slightly darker and less saturated so they look great on dark backgrounds.

How do I customise fonts on my event cards?

Pro users can personalise event cards with different font styles:

  1. Open your event in full screen view
  2. Tap the settings icon (cog/gear)
  3. Select "Edit Font"
  4. Choose from a variety of font presets
  5. Preview the font on your card and tap to apply

Different fonts can help match the mood of your event — elegant scripts for weddings, playful fonts for birthdays, or clean modern fonts for work milestones.

How do I adjust photo focus and vignette?

OhMyDays gives you control over how your photos appear on event cards:

Focus Point:

  • When editing a photo, drag to adjust where the image centers
  • This ensures the most important part of your photo is visible, especially on smaller card sizes or widgets

Vignette:

  • Vignette adds a subtle darkening around the edges of your photo
  • This helps the white countdown text stand out better against bright or busy backgrounds
  • Adjust the intensity from off to dark depending on your photo
What are multi-day events?

Multi-day events are perfect for trips, conferences, or any event that spans multiple days:

  1. When creating or editing an event, go to Advanced Settings
  2. Enable "End Date"
  3. Select your end date

The counter will show days until the event starts, then switch to show how many days remain once the event begins.

Multi-day events also appear across all their dates in the calendar views.

What is Working Days Only?

Working Days Only lets you count only your selected working days, excluding weekends or days off:

  1. When creating or editing an event, go to Advanced Settings
  2. Enable "Working Days"
  3. Select which days are your working days (e.g., Mon-Fri, or any combination)

This is perfect for tracking work deadlines, project timelines, or any countdown where only business days matter.

For example, if your deadline is in 10 calendar days but you only work Monday to Friday, the counter will show the actual number of working days instead.

How do I set a timezone for an event?

For events in different time zones (like international flights or meetings), you can set a specific timezone:

  1. When creating or editing an event, go to Advanced Settings
  2. Enable "Global Time"
  3. Select the timezone for your event

The countdown will calculate based on that timezone, not your current location. This is especially useful for:

  • Flight departures and arrivals
  • International meetings or calls
  • Events happening in a different country
  • Live events broadcast from another timezone

Notes

How do I add notes to my events?

Add rich notes to any event to capture details, memories, or plans:

  1. Open your event in full screen view
  2. Tap the Notes button in the top toolbar
  3. Start typing your notes

Formatting options:

  • Headings: H1, H2, H3, and Paragraph styles
  • Text styling: Bold, italic, underline, and strikethrough
  • Lists: Bullet points and checklists/to-dos

Notes are perfect for packing lists, itineraries, gift ideas, party planning, or any details you want to remember about an event.

What is Pin Notes?

Pin Notes lets you display your notes directly on the event's full screen view:

  1. Open your event in full screen view
  2. Tap the Notes button to open the notes editor
  3. Tap the Pin button in the toolbar

When pinned, your notes appear as an overlay on the event card. This is great for:

  • Quick reference without opening the notes editor
  • Displaying packing lists or to-dos at a glance
  • Showing event details like venue address or schedule

Tap the pin button again to unpin and hide the notes overlay.

What is the Weekly View in Notes?

The Weekly View gives you a quick overview of all your notes entries for the current week:

  1. Open any event's notes editor
  2. Tap the calendar/week icon in the toolbar
  3. See all your note entries organised by day

This is perfect for:

  • Reviewing what you've written across all events this week
  • Checking your to-dos and checklists at a glance
  • Getting a bird's-eye view of your week's plans

Calendar Sync

How do I import events from my calendar?

OhMyDays can import events from your device calendars, including Google Calendar, Outlook, iCloud, and more:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap "Calendar Sync"
  3. Grant calendar access if prompted
  4. Select which calendars to import from (Default, Other, Subscribed)
  5. Tap "Sync Now" to import events

Options:

  • Future Events Only: Toggle this to only import upcoming events, ignoring past ones

Important: Calendar sync is one-way. Changes to your original calendar events will update in OhMyDays when you tap "Sync Now", but edits made in OhMyDays won't sync back to your calendar.

How do I add more calendar accounts?

OhMyDays imports from calendars configured on your device. To add more calendar accounts:

  1. Open your device Settings app
  2. Go to Calendar
  3. Tap Accounts
  4. Add your Google, Outlook, iCloud, or other calendar accounts

Once added, return to OhMyDays and tap "Sync Now" — your new calendars will appear in the list.

Settings & Preferences

What is Hand Preference?

Hand Preference lets you choose which side of the screen the settings button appears on:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Find "Hand Preference"
  3. Choose Left or Right

If you're right-handed, you might prefer the settings cog on the right side for easier one-handed access. Left-handed users can switch it to the left side.

This affects the position of the settings/menu button when viewing events in full screen.

Home Screen Widgets

How do I add a widget to my home screen?

On iPhone:

  1. Long-press on your home screen until apps jiggle
  2. Tap the "+" button in the top left corner
  3. Search for "OhMyDays" in the widget gallery
  4. Choose your preferred widget size
  5. Tap "Add Widget"
  6. Position the widget and tap "Done"

After adding, tap the widget to configure which event it displays.

How do I add a widget to my lock screen?

On iPhone (iOS 16 or later):

  1. Long-press on your lock screen until the "Customise" button appears
  2. Tap Customise and select your lock screen
  3. Tap the area above or below the clock to add widgets
  4. Search for "OhMyDays" in the widget list
  5. Select a lock screen widget style
  6. Tap Done to save

Lock screen widgets show a compact counter for your chosen event, so you can see it at a glance without unlocking your phone.

What widget sizes are available?

OhMyDays offers several widget sizes:

  • Small: Shows one event with counter
  • Medium: Shows one event with more detail
  • Large: Shows one event or multiple events (Pro)
  • Extra Large (iPad): Shows up to 6 events in a grid (Pro)
  • Lock Screen: Compact counter for your lock screen

Multi-event widgets that display multiple counters at once are available for Pro subscribers.

Why isn't my widget updating?

Widgets update periodically based on iOS system scheduling. If your widget isn't showing the latest information:

  • Open the app: This triggers a widget refresh
  • Wait a few minutes: iOS batches widget updates to save battery
  • Remove and re-add: If issues persist, try removing and adding the widget again

Note: iOS controls widget refresh timing to optimize battery life, so updates may not be instant.

Sharing

How do I share a copy of my event?

Pro users can share a copy of any event with friends and family via a link:

  1. Open your event in full screen view
  2. Tap the share icon quick action button under the date, or from the full event options menu cog/settings icon
  3. On the first page of the carousel ("Share a Copy"), tap "Share Link"
  4. A shareable link will be generated and the share sheet will open
  5. Send the link via Messages, WhatsApp, or any other app

What happens when someone opens the link?

  • If they have OhMyDays installed, the app opens with a preview of the event
  • They can tap "Save Event" to add it to their own events
  • If they don't have the app, they'll see the event details and a link to download OhMyDays

Important: Share links expire after 12 hours. After that, the link will no longer work and any uploaded photos are automatically deleted.

  • Check permissions: Go to Settings > OhMyDays and ensure Photo Library access is enabled
  • Try re-adding: Edit the event and select the photo again
  • Restart the app: Close and reopen OhMyDays
  • Check storage: Ensure your device has enough storage space
